Why I became a financial advisor.

A number of years ago, an association of estate planning attorneys of which I was a member had a number of lawyers that also served as financial advisors – much like some CPAs, who provide financial services in addition to their tax practices.  As I learned more about this practice, I immediately found myself drawn to it.  While I enjoy the practice of law and estate planning and it is important, ultimately – to me – there is nothing more meaningful than helping a client achieve a lifelong financial goal and perhaps even their version of an ideal life.  I have historically identified with other lawyers, and always enjoyed helping younger lawyers explore their career paths.  I even  co-authored a book for younger lawyers on interviewing

Having launched my own solo law practice in 2009, I have encountered some of the same challenges as other attorneys – tax planning, cash flow planning, retirement planning, etc.  Initially, I wanted to learn all aspects of financial and tax planning just for my own benefit. Now, I find it gratifying to share my knowledge and play a part in helping other attorneys or independent fiduciaries fulfill their financial life goals as well as those that depend on them.

Favorite spot in San Diego:

Somewhere on the mats. I train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and most recently, I have been training at Atos HQ in San Diego.   San Diego has long been a “Mecca” of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and I am fortunate that the weather here allows for training year-round.

Favorite things to do outside the office:

Either training Jiu Jitsu or spending time with my son and daughter, rowing at the San Diego Rowing Club, or exploring the great outdoors.

Favorite vacation spot:

Most recently, it has been Joshua Tree National Park.

Favorite neighborhood in San Diego:

I love University City.  I live here, and my office is just down the street from my home.  UC is minutes away from my gym, La Jolla shores, and Convoy Street – all of which I love.

It is a great neighborhood to live and raise a family.
